What is Medicare and who is eligible?

Medicare is a federal health program for people 65 or older, or those under 65 with certain disabilities. Eligibility is based on age, disability status, and U.S. residency.

What are the different parts of Medicare?

    Medicare includes:

    • Part A – Hospital coverage
    • Part B – Doctor visits and outpatient care
    • Part C – Medicare Advantage plans from private insurers
    • Part D – Prescription drug coverage

When can I enroll in Medicare?

You can enroll during your Initial Enrollment Period (around age 65), the Annual Enrollment Period (Oct 15 – Dec 7), or during a Special Enrollment Period based on life events.

What is the difference between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage?

Original Medicare is government-run and includes Part A and B. Medicare Advantage plans (Part C) are offered by private companies and usually include additional benefits like dental, vision, and drug coverage along with the Medicare Parts A and B.

Do I need a separate plan for prescription drugs?

Yes, if you have Original Medicare you’ll need a Medicare Part D plan. Medicare Advantage plans often include drug coverage, but not always—check the details.

What is Medigap and how does it work?

Medigap, also referred to as Medicare Supplement or Supplemental, helps cover deductibles and coinsurance that Original Medicare doesn’t pay. These are private supplemental plans and don’t include drug coverage.

Can I change my Medicare plan later?

Yes. You can switch plans during the Annual Enrollment Period, the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period, or a Special Enrollment Period.  Click below for specific enrollment periods:
